World Book Day 2022

  • by

Thurs 3rd March

World Book Day is turning 25! And we have organised plenty of fun to help you celebrate.

Dress Up

First, there is the Dress Up as your Favourite Book Character Competition.  It’s pretty simple really: just come to school dressed as your favourite character or book on 3rd March, for a chance to win a book voucher worth £7.99.  All children are welcome to take part, and there will be a winner from each class!

Write a Poem / Design a Book Cover

Prize: £12.99 plus a £25 Oddonno’s voucher

Is dressing up not your thing?  How about a bit of writing? Or maybe you prefer art? Because you can also have a go at our Write a Poem and/or Design a New Book Cover of your Favourite Book competition!  And yes, we know it’s a mouthful.

You can write a poem about anything; a person, a pet, a bad day, a mystery, a place, even a smell! It can be funny, sad, rhyming or not.  And when you are done, just hand it over to your teacher with your name and class and we’ll do the rest.

But if you rather try your hand at some drawing and design instead, than go for it!  Just choose a book (your favourite will do) and have a go at drawing a different cover for it. You can use paint, pencil, crayon, pen. But no computers! And your entry must be A4.  Just hand your work to your teacher with your name and class when you are done.

Poems will be judged by Ms Summer and Art entries by Ms Marriot.  The winners will each receive a book voucher worth £12.99 plus a £25 Oddonno’s (Award winning Fresh Natural Gelato, 147 Lordship Lane) voucher, and the poem and artwork will also be added to the FoG website for a little extra recognition!

Open to all KS1 and KS2 children (years 1 to 6).

Entries can be handed in from Feb 21st to March 7th.

Prize: Book bundle, £50 Oddono’s voucher, plus a few extra surprises!

Now, if you don’t want to write, draw, or dress up, how about a little…reading instead?!

That’s right, we are running a Sponsored Readathon too!  Just grab a form and think about how much reading you can do for it.  It can be a whole book, a specific number of chapters, pages – it really depends on you!

Just hand your form and sponsored money in a sealed envelope to your teacher – and the class who has the most children taking part will be declared the winner and receive a book bundle as a prize, £50 Oddono’s (Award winning Fresh Natural Gelato, 147 Lordship Lane) voucher, plus a few extra surprises!

Open to all KS1 and KS2 children (years 1 to 6).

Competition closes on March 7th.

And finally… a big thank you to Oliver Faulkner in class 16, who won our Halloween art competition and who has done the amazing artwork for our World Book Day poster this year.  Look out for his eye-catching design around the school!

Good luck!
