Rye Books Recommends: June

Each month Rye Books are recommending three books to read. If you fancy giving them a go, just go along to the shop and they’ll give you 10% discount on them (for this month only). Just take a copy of the school newsletter with you to get the discount.

Here are the June recommendations:

Ages 5-6: The Tiger-Skin Rug (Gerald Rose)

It’s amazing how easy it is for the tiger to pass himself off as a rug, enjoying a life of luxury with the rajah’s family. He goes entirely undetected, until one night, when he risks expulsion from his comfortable abode as burglars break into the palace and he has to decide whether to stay in disguise as a rug – or save the rajah.

Age 7-9: Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls (Elena Favilli and Franscesca Cavallo)

What if the princess didn’t marry Prince Charming but instead went on to be an astronaut? What if the jealous step sisters were supportive and kind? And what if the queen was the one really in charge of the kingdom? Illustrated by sixty female artists from every corner of the globe, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls introduces us to one hundred remarkable women and their extraordinary lives.

Age 9-11: The Wildlings (Nilanja Roy and Prabha Mallya)

The Wildings are feral cats, who fear no one, go where they want and do as they please. Battle-scarred tomcats, fierce warrior queens, the Wildings have ruled over Nizamuddin for centuries. But there is a new addition to the clan – a pampered housecat with strange powers. And something dark and dangerous is stirring in the old Shuttered House, and the Wildings will need all the allies they can get as they fight for their lives.
